B/X Stonehell Dungeon, Session 10, April 10, 2021

Dramatis Personae: Capt. Jane Bridgers, Cleric, bearer of the Holy Q-tip of healing.  Isabella Disarono, Thief extraordinaire.  NPCs:  Mik the torchbearer Lindt, fighter Banfiz the Elf  The party descended into Stonehell again, this time bypassing the first level as much as possible, as they had sufficient firepower to delve deeper: both Jane and Isabella are very well armed and armoured.  Izzie insisted on returning to the room of darkness and have Lightbringer dispel it. This was successful, but nothing else of interest was found in there. The silence was not dispelled, however.  Heading south, the came across and old dormitory with nothing but a severed, skeletal hand with a mundane but nice ring on it.  They also encountered a group of kobolds at the cistern room, gathering fresh water for the inmates. They ply one of them for information, greasing the wheels of diplomacy with coin, gaining some intel.  Further south they encountered a group o...

B/X Stonehell Dungeon, Session 9, March 27, 2021

Dramatis Personae: Izzie the Thief Benji the Halfling  NPCs Banfiz the Elf Gort the Cleric  Mik the Torchbearer  Kiwi, Benji’s War Doggo  The party spent some time at the Bog Standard, trolling for rumours, and didn’t learn anything new. Since they had “time” (wait for it!) they went to see Garfunkel the “Sage” (damn I’m good) for intel on Malfreces, who came through town a while back. Some kind of “Undead Whisperer”, apparently.  The party wasn’t feeling particularly brave, so rather than pressing on to the second level, they decided to try to find Malfreces in the Quiet Halls. They didn’t find him, but they found something, and were also themselves found by others:  They came upon a room, the walls and floor of which flickered with undulating black and purple flames which crisscrossed back and forth across the chamber. Gort identified it as Balefire. The room also contained a stone dais topped with a chest, a target too tempting for the PCs to thin...

B/X Stonehell Dungeon, Session 8. March 6, 2021

Dramatis Personae: Benji Boggins, a halfling who apparently drinks poisons for fun Isabella Disarono: a thief who has become strangely risk averse, in contrast to her ego Captain Jane Bridgers, Weilder of the Holy Q-tip, the divine staff of bonk-healing  NPCs: Buffalo Head, Minotaur fighter Lindt, fighter The party made the obligatory offering to Coal, the Black Bear of the Valley,    garnering a re-roll for each character before braving the depths of Stonehell.  Despite Izzie’s record haul from delving into the second level, she cautioned against the party delving there this session, so they ventured into the Quiet Halls, secure in Jane’s ability to Turn Undead to keep them from a TPK.  They opened one crypt, which had a good number of skeletons in it. Jane Turned most of them, and the party started to take them down one by one. All did not go according to plan, as Benji decided to play ro sham bo with one of them, and was knocked out with a natural 20 (full da...

B/X Stonehell Dungeon Session 7, Feb 20, 2021

Dramatis Personae: Isabella Disarono: Thief of prodigious ego NPCs: Gort of the Shining Force, Cleric Buffalo Head, Fighter  Lindt, Fighter Another solo session! This time it was the intrepid and notoriously overconfident Isabella the Thief leading her band of hirelings.  After making the prudent offering to Coal the black bear to procure a re-roll, the party headed into the dungeon. The first area of note they uncovered was a room with a strange stone dial, designed to be spun, inscribed with runes and glyphs of luck, chance, and disaster. Because adventurers are a mercurial lot, they all decided to spin the Wheel of Fortune. It seems that Fate not only protects fools, little children, and ships named Enterprise, it likewise protects adventurers. Not that they don’t usually fall under the category of “fools” as well. Isabella ended up with an AC bonus, Buffalo Head had to save vs spells or die (he survived) Lindt got a re-roll, Gort with his gold doubled, but only after Isabe...

B/X Stonehell Dungeon Session 6, Feb 6, 2021

Dramatics Personae:  Benji Boggins, a halfling with more ambition than caution NPCS Case O’Beer, fighter who talks like the peasant from Warcraft 1 Dank Holden, the 1 HP wonder Mik the Torchbearer, who is scared of the dark  Tonight was a solo session featuring Benji Boggins the halfling. Together with his newfound hirelings Case O’Beer, Dank Holden and the torchbearer Mik, he braved the night haunted halls of Stonehell Dungeon.  They first examined the remaining crypts, and dispatched a skeletal dog which failed to do much damage. They then encountered a ghoul (ghouls just wanna have fun!) which paralyzed Dank and sorely wounded Case. However, it was guarding a large amount of electrum pieces, which the group grabbed and ran back to town after using both of Jane’s healing potions to heal and remove the paralysis.  Once in town, Benji realized he had learned a lot from that short delve and was levelled up to level 2. They outfitted themselves with more gear and heade...

B/X Stonehell Dungeon Session 5 Jan 23, 2021 To the Second Level

Dramatis Personae: Benji Boggins: Halfling of great bravery, coupled with neither Intelligence, nor Wisdom, nor forethought  Captain Jane Bridgers, a cleric who has proven her faith and can now cast spells Finlor: Elf, no relation to Finrod or Finarfin   Liathano: Mage: she’s looking for summoning magic  Isabella Disarono: Thief of prodigious ego  Oryn: A dwarf of redoubtable strength, bearer of the Axe Scar Also present: The retainer Buffalo Head, fighter, and is I suppose, a Minotaur, named after the beer Stacy was drinking when hired The retainer Lindt, named after the chocolate Lexa was eating when he was hired  Interesting note: gender parity in the player group   The group explored the northwest section of the dungeon, hitting a lot of soft targets. Due to the size and firepower of the party, they were able to take down “Da Dragon” (in actuality a giant gecko) in a few rounds with only Oryn taking damage.  The only truly dangerous moment was when...

B/X Stonehell Dungeon Session 4 Dec 26, 2020

Dramatis Personae: Benji Boggins: Halfling of great bravery, coupled with neither Intelligence nor Wisdom Isabella Disarono: Thief of prodigious ego  Oryn: A dwarf of redoubtable strength  Also present: the retainer Buffalo Head, fighter, and is, I suppose, a Minotaur  The party narrowly avoided not one, but TWO potential TPKS through a combination of dumb luck, solid tactics, and a good handful of healing potions. It was of course, Murphy’s Law that had them beeline straight for the deadliest encounter on the level, a whole tribe of orcs with an incredibly deadly captain. However, in B/X, great risks yield great rewards: Oryn received the legendary dwarven battle axe “Scar” from the corpse of the Orc captain. They then came upon a group of dwarves documenting the dungeon architecture, who took pity on the bedraggled delivers and healed them up when the party offered them their recently plundered dwarven brandy. Later, the party was then treated to an example of Benji’s l...
